GCF launched four initiatives following a “community listening” process conducted in 2002. The initiatives each span five years, beginning in 2003 and ending in 2007.

Ohio River Way
GCF is a leading funder of Ohio River Way, an initiative dedicated to promoting and enhancing the Ohio River’s assets and strengths. Encompassing a 120-mile stretch of the Ohio River from Maysville, KY to Madison, IN, Ohio River Way combines the principles of comprehensive community development with a practical application of a regional vision for a healthy environment.

Ohio River Way grew from the work of the Metropolitan Growth Alliance, which convened over 250 commercial and recreational users, public officials, environmentalists and interested citizens to secure a recreational and natural resource corridor. Volunteers from Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana worked together for more than a year to plan enhancements to the River’s historical, cultural, recreational and commercial uses.

GCF Investment: $500,000 over five years
